A beautiful picnic site on the slopes of mount Meru that sits right next to the ranger’s post and entry point to Napuru falls. Although it is within TANAPA territory, the facilities onsite are owned and run by Themi falls leisure park.
These include several picnic benches, toilets, the candy shop that also serves as the kitchen and an open air dining area for those rainy days.
What to do there?Have a drink or meal in the tranquil environment. Even if you are not headed to the falls, the picnic site can still be the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of the ciy life.
Plus, the hike or drive there could also be a great chance to interact with local villagers and even visit other attractions.
Best time to visit?Any time of the year, with more emphasis towards the drier seasons of June to February each year.
Location of Napuru picnic siteNapuru picnic site is located on the southern slopes of mount Meru, just a few kilometres north of Arusha’s city centre. It is also near the edge of a TANAPA zone that may be Arusha national park. For more information on its location, please see the map below.
How to get there?Mostly by driving, with a turning point heading north on the Arusha – Moshi highway, opposite mount Meru hotel. From here the road takes a steep incline up mount Meru’s foothills, using an all seasons dirt road.
There are mini buses that could get you most of the way there but these are rare, leaving Taxi’s and private cars as the most convenient method of getting there; However, if you take a car there, just make sure it is in good condition as the steep incline does take its toll on older cars.
Alternatively, it is possible to arrange transportation with Themi falls or a local tours and travel company.
